Thanks to a healthy dose of Attention Deficit Disorder and the relentless need to have new hobbies, I've become a proud generalist. I know a little bit about a lot and a lot about very little. I've been in various positions in ministry for over ten years, though most of my time has been spent in communications. My wife, my 2 girls, and I began our journey with First Baptist Wylie in December 2019.

Kayla and I have been married for 18 years and we most enjoy investing in our neighbors through relational discipleship in as-we-go ministry. 4 of our 7 normal(ish) children are adopted through foster care. We pastor with a country church in rural West Michigan. Our church was in steep decline 7 years ago. They asked for help from the denomination, and prayed for young families with children. My discipler spent a year helping them turn things from scarcity to hopeful, and from $8.76 in checking & 17 people per Sunday gathering to supporting a nearly fulltime pastor and 34 people per Sunday. Kayla and I showed up 4 years ago with 7 kids, and now we're a church of 90 people and on the cusp of church planting through relational discipleship.

I also serve as a director of student and faculty ministries with the campus ministry of Cru in the greater Kansas City area. One of the key initiatives with Cru that I'm a part of seeks to better mobilize graduates for church planting and missional engagement in their communities.

From the corn fields of Indiana, I first heard the call to ministry as a child to be a missionary doctor. Over time it became clear that pastoral ministry was better suited to my gifting. With 22 years of ministry experience as an associate and lead pastor, it has become clear there is a lot more to learn. My hope is to produce a thriving new church through the cooperative efforts of rural churches. This year marked 21 years of marriage to Loretta that has produced twin 18 year old girls and a 15 year old son.

As the Communications Director at FBC Wylie, Dan sums up his job in just a few words: to help people find their next step. Whether it be inviting guests to come and see who Jesus is, or helping that "long-time Christian" find the next opportunity to grow in their faith, Dan seeks to find better ways to communicate to lead people to a response. After two decades serving churches as a consultant helping them communicate better and raise resources to fund big visions – for which he owes hundreds of churches an apology for creating so much work – Dan feels lucky to be a full-time staff member dedicated to amplifying his local church's impact. He and his wife, Shannon, live in Wylie, Texas, trying to keep up with three sons and a daughter.
